It was everything Naomi dreamt it to be, and more.
It wasn’t full of clouds and cherubs and pearly gates. In fact, it was far from that. Endless fields of green, like a patchwork that draped itself over the whole landscape. Mountains that seemed to go on forever and she was in the valley, where the mist hung in the mornings and the scent of evergreens was ever pungent.
For the first time, in heaven, she heard the birds chirping in the trees, singing their tune. She heard the wind blowing through the trees and she heard her own voice. She heard the music she made.
In Heaven, she was free from the bounds of her earthly flesh.
In Heaven, she was happy. Happier than she’d ever been. She was at peace, her violin ever at her side, piano and song always in the air.
She stepped lightly off a curb and into the street, already having looked.
She didn’t see that car coming… Not until it was too late.

The next thing the girl knew she was in the middle of the road, in a pool of her own blood, pain making everything fuzzy. Or was that the loss of blood…? She wasn’t sure, but the blackness was creeping into her vision and strangely enough, she wasn’t about to fight back.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me…
She knew she was going to die. In that very moment she knew that it was imminent. Naomi was so scared and yet she knew she was going to be okay. Even if there wasn’t an afterlife she was content. She’d die happy. She’d done what she wanted to do, and she was loved. Perhaps she hadn’t made the great mark on the world that she’d intended, but at the same time that might not have been the point of her being on this Earth.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over…
What would her parents say? How would they react? That was all on her mind, but she pushed it away. She let the pain disappear and the imending sense of doom fade away.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Dean stood up and stretched, yawning. “I could poof you home if you want me to?” he offered, smiling at her.
Naomi shook her head. It’s fine, I can walk! She bit her lip and stood up, wrapping her arms around Adam. She kissed his cheek in a friendly manner, smiling…
“It was nice meeting you Naomi. Be safe. Please. For Adam’s sake.” he said smiling, holding his arms out offering a hug.
Naomi stepped forward and gave him one of her legendary warm hugs, lingering for a moment before stepping back and hugging Adam again. I’ll see you later. It was great meeting you too, Dean. Keep him safe, yeah? She smiled softly and blew a kiss to them both. She walked out the door and sighed softly to herself, sad to be leaving, but happy to have seen her friend again.

Naomi shook her head. It’s fine, I can walk! She bit her lip and stood up, wrapping her arms around Adam. She kissed his cheek in a friendly manner, smiling sadly. I’ll visit tomorrow, okay? I promise. It’s been so good to see you again…
Dean beamed happily at her mentioning that him and Adam seemed to be perfect together. He saw Adam sign back shyly and he grinned, kissing his cheek sweetly. “It’d be cool if you could play something.” he said softly, looking at Naomi smiling…
Dean smiled brightly, enjoying her playing, and when she had finished he was very impressed. Adam jumped up and hugged her and he sat back, smiling still. “That was amazing. I’m very impressed!” he said happily.
I’m glad you both liked it! Naomi smiled into her hug and then carefully put her violin away, glancing at the clock. It’s so nice to be on break. Crap, it’s getting late… I should get home before it gets dark. She frowned a little. I hate to go, though…
Dean let Adam lead him and Naomi to the couch, both him and Adam sitting down. He smiled lovingly as Adam cuddled against him and held tight to their hands. He wrapped his arms around Adam and pulled him on his lap, kissing his shoulder, and letting the two friends converse.
A lot of school things! Naomi signed, grinning. Um… Exams. Lots of exams. And I’ve got a boyfriend now, a decent one, I swear. Nothing like Dan. He would’ve come but he had night classes tonight. She beamed. Just… wow! You two just seem to perfect together. OH! Adam, I got a new violin, it’s the one I brought with me.
He scowled darkly at the mention of Dan before nodding. Good, I’m glad. I didn’t like him. Yeah? He blushed, kissing their interlocked hands. Yeah. We are. Yeah? Oh, can you play something?
Dean beamed happily at her mentioning that him and Adam seemed to be perfect together. He saw Adam sign back shyly and he grinned, kissing his cheek sweetly. “It’d be cool if you could play something.” he said softly, looking at Naomi smiling brightly. “And thank you. Me and Adam… Well, let’s just say we’re like a jigsaw puzzle. Finally complete.” he grinned, making Adam look directly at him and kissing him fully but quickly on the lips.
Naomi smiled softly, her inner romantic squealing. She pulled the violin from its case in her bag, along with the bow, testing with her finger if it needed any resin. It was good… She nodded, to herself, before getting in position and beginning to play, notes concise and flowing into one another, the melody becoming much more than just a song. The music filled the air and her eyes closed, just focusing on the music. After a time she was finished and she opened her eyes, watching them both.

Dean smiled down at him adoringly and kissed him on the cheek. “We could go for a walk? We could all come inside? It’s up to you two.” he said smiling and holding Adam tighter. Dean sent Adam a thought, I love you.
Naomi shrugged and smiled. I’ve been walking a lot… Why don’t we all go inside? She watched the both of them with shining eyes, so happy to see her best friend with someone he loved.
Naomi smiled at Dean kindly, dark eyes shining warmly. Black curls framed her face and she started signing happily to him. I’m Naomi, it’s great to meet you… I’m a good friend of Adam’s. She…

Me too.” he said smiling. “But I don’t play in front of others… Wait, how can you play? If you’re deaf I mean?” he asked Naomi, his head tilting in confusion.
I get asked that a lot, Naomi signed, shrugging. I hear the music, just in a different way. I feel the vibrations… I play violin and piano. I’ve been playing since I was three. She smiled happily. I love it. Adam, you never tell me these things! I mean, really, you could send me a text… She giggled and shook her head. Are we just going to stand here, then?
